Employment

What does excellent location and placement along the Boston-to-Washington corridor, well-developed multimodal transportation infrastructure, and a large and highly-educated work force pool add up to? Just the right place for relocation for a growing list of companies.

Buzz words like cyberdistricts, aquaculture and hi-tech incubators dot the lexicon. The recent opening of the Belford Ferry Terminal has expanded the existing ferry service to Manhattan. Key utilities explore the latest technological advances to provide for continued expansion and support economic development. It's not surprising, then, that Monmouth County was chosen from among 500 communities nationwide as the "Third Best Place to Live" by Money Magazine.

Anchored by telecommunications giants AT&T, Lucent, and the world-renowned Bell Labs, the majority of the area's businesses fall into the small business category, with 100 or fewer employees.

Two military operations in Monmouth County, Naval Weapons Station Earle in Leonardo and Colts Neck and the Fort Monmouth Army Installation in Eatontown, are among the area's top employers, along with four regional health-care systems. Along the Bayshore, fishing and clamming continues to provide a livelihood for countless long-time residents.

Meanwhile, the county's fertile lands and temperate climate have enabled its agricultural community to flourish, as does the partnership that exists among local business organizations and community leaders, resulting in a long term commitment to protect all the county's resources while enabling it to continue to grow.
